Lilly UK, the UK affiliate of major American pharmaceutical manufacturer, Eli Lilly and Company of Indianapolis first came to Hampshire in 1939. The company’s first manufacturing facility outside the US and UK headquarters were established in Basingstoke, north Hampshire from where they have played a major role in Lilly's global success story for the last 70 years.
Lilly UK is one of the UK´s top pharmaceutical companies, with a research and development centre, a manufacturing site and a distribution centre which exports medicines to all parts of the world. The Basingstoke site produces over 50 million packs of medicines a year for customers in more than 100 countries. These exports are worth over £880 million annually, making the company one of the UK's top exporters. Basingstoke is also a major supplier of some of Lilly’s best-selling medicines with an annual volume of 1.5 billion doses.
