A Growing Brand – Vitacress

In 1951, starting with one acre of watercress beds in Hampshire, Malcolm Isaac laid the foundations of what is today Europe’s leading grower and packer of watercress, rocket and baby leaf salads and speciality vegetables: Vitacress Salads Ltd.

Vitacress’ headquarters and Hampshire farm, located in the picturesque Test Valley, forms part of the company’s 300,000 sq m of growing beds, making the group the world’s leading watercress producer and an international farming business.

“Hampshire soil is a perfect location for Vitacress from the perspective of growing both our crops and our business,” says Mike Rushworth, Managing Director of Vitacress Salads UK.  “The county is rich in benefits from the well connected transport links vital to our business to the positive culture towards local food.”

“We are proud of our Hampshire roots, watercress is synonymous with the county.  As a company we ensure that whilst the business is now international Vitacress is still heavily involved in the local food economy.”

Vitacress has also been proactive in working with Hampshire based organisations like the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to ensure sustainability and conservation practices across the business.  The company has led the field in developing the process of gently washing product only in pure spring water, has actively sought to reduce the number of pesticides applied to its crops, and has set leading standards achieving nil residues in over 90% of its produce.
