Hampshire firm leads the charge for electric vehicles
When it comes to motoring the future is electric and one Hampshire company is working at the very forefront of the revolution. InstaVolt is one of the UK’s fastest growing electric car charging companies and installs, maintains and operates rapid EV (electric vehicle) chargers.
Since setting its roots in Basingstoke the company has seen huge growth, with a £12m equity investment from Zouk Capital at the tail end of 2016 supercharging its plans to install chargers all over the UK. A multi-million pound deal with Silicon Valley giant ChargePoint soon followed, with InstaVolt so confident about the future that it made an initial order for 200 charging stations. It has since announced another order for a further 400, with Bannatyne Health Clubs, Harvest Energy and scores of petrol forecourts among those crying out for InstaVolt’s chargers.
CEO Tim Payne, who has always lived in Hampshire, said: “Basingstoke was the perfect place for us to establish InstaVolt and we’ve seen significant growth since our inception. We’re installing our electric car chargers all over the UK so it’s really important that our team can get onto the road quickly. Our proximity to the M3 allows us to do just that. The fact we can easily reach London provides access to the financial institutions and also Heathrow as we’re regularly flying out to San Francisco to meet with our technology partners.”
While InstaVolt hasn’t needed to call upon funding from the many business organisations in Hampshire, it’s found the local business community to be a pool of opportunity.
Chineham Business Park, where InstaVolt is based, was among its first clients and local forecourt chain Rusdene Services has selected InstaVolt to install chargers across several of its sites in the county.
Tim adds: “Businesses in Hampshire are very switched on to the electric car revolution. They understand that this is the future of motoring and they’re working with us to stay ahead of the curve. “Ultimately, the more chargers we can get out there, the easier it will be for people to charge and drive electric cars.
It’s a very exciting prospect to think that what we’re doing is helping to increase use of electric vehicles and subsequently improve air quality.”
